NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Oral Health Promotion Team have held their fourth annual showcase event at the Gailes Hotel, Irvine.
The event was held in partnership with a wide range of other services and aimed to raise awareness of the important role community development has in oral health. It also launched two new innovative programmes – ‘Search for a smile’, an interactive educational resource developed by primary school children from St Bridget’s Primary School, Galston and Dalmilling Primary School, Ayr and The Power of a Smile, an advertising campaign developed in partnership with pupils from Garnock Academy, Kilbirnie which will be broadcast on local radio stations later this year.
Lots of children from the participating primary schools attended the showcase to see the results of their hard work and to collect their prizes following a recent competition to design an oral health board game. Three entries were selected from Brodick (Arran), Greenmill (Cumnock) and Glenburn Primary Schools (Prestwick) and developed to produce the board games: Toothafied, Molar Mania and Tooth Adventure.
